I cannot believe we are FINALLY redoing our guest bathroom! I have never shared anything about a bathroom on my blog before because we’ve never had a bathroom worth talking about. Our house has two crappy bathrooms (pun intended 🙃) and we are finally gutting one of them.
When we bought our home we redid the tile floor in both bathrooms. At the time, our contractor talked to us about how the sub flooring was messed up in the guest bathroom but said he’d put material down so the new tile wouldn’t be ruined by the messed up subfloor. WRONG. Our contractor later exposed his lack of integrity in several areas including the bathroom floor. Within no time the tile and grout came up in the bathroom. When you walk in the bathroom you hear crunching from the floor being so messed up and grout falls through into the playroom basement. It’s bad.
We’ve wanted to tackle this project for quite a while but knew the whole bathroom needed to be gutted when it happened. I didn’t want to replace the floor without also replacing the vanity, etc. Well I saved my pennies and now is the time!!!!
Here’s where we are starting from…
As much as I love all the trends out there right now with regards to tile, I am going with a classic, timeless marble hex floor tile from Riad tile. We are redoing the shower wall tile (to the ceiling), as well. In there I bought a 3X12 honed subway tile (for a great deal). I am still deciding on the final pattern but I think this bathroom will look timeless when it’s all said and done! I plan on adding color and texture through wall art and accessories but I like to keep the big ticket items classic.
Without further ado, here’s the design! What I love about it – Neutral colors, mixed metals, the mirror (we put this mirror in the bathroom at the cabin and I love it! It’s nice and wide with a beautiful arch), and the brushed gold faucet and shower head.
We are also contemplating getting rid of our barn door (it offers no privacy) and installing a pocket door at the same time. To me, it’s non negotiable – It needs to be done at the same time. Just crunching the numbers to make it happen.
Here’s a list of my sources thus far!
Thanks for following along! Stay tuned / I will be sharing play-by-play details in stories!
