I had paint colors picked out well before we even had a house! I think my husband thought I was crazy bringing home paint chips and we weren’t even on the house hunt. I also carry my paint chips around in my wallet. They are worn out but I’m glad I have them when I am out and about and need to match something I’ve found with our paint colors.
I quickly learned lighting makes the world of difference when selecting paint colors. I brought home paint samples and painted a small area on EACH wall in each room. Light hits each wall differently so I find it beneficial to test out your paint colors on every wall before deciding. I’m often asked on Instagram if the color in the dining room is the same as the living room. The answer – YES! We have a ton of windows and natural light in our house. The color in the dining room appears lighter because of the french doors off the dining room and the bay windows in the kitchen. There is so much natural light in that space!
Alright, the wait is over! Here are the colors in our house with a picture of each room.
Living Room / Dining room / Kitchen – Sherwin Williams “Mindful Gray”, egg shell sheen.
Master Bedroom / Master Bath – Sherwin Williams “Intellectual Gray”, egg shell sheen.
Nursery – Sherwin Williams “Agreeable Gray”, egg shell sheen.
Guest Room / Guest Bath – Sherwin Williams “Silver Strand”, egg shell sheen.
Kitchen Cabinets / Trim / Doors – Sherwin Williams “Alabaster White”, semi-gloss sheen.
All of our walls are an eggshell sheen and the trim, doors, and cabinets are semi-gloss. Our ceilings are “Ceiling White”.
There are lots more pictures on my Instagram (@mindfullygray) if you’d like to see these colors from different angles / lighting.
If you’re wondering if the name Mindfully Gray came from our living room / dining room paint color, Mindful Gray – It sure did! Our house was a mess when I started Mindfully Gray. The only thing I knew for sure when we began fixing it up was our paint colors. Something about the name Mindfully Gray seemed to fit this new adventure perfectly.
Thanks for stopping by! Feel free to comment any questions you might have!

Love the colors! What color our your ceilings with the mindful grey?
Jamie says
Thank you!! Our ceilings are all ceiling white.
Kristen says
Is that a Sherwin Williams color? Because all I can find it ceiling bright white.
Lainey says
Do you know the granite name of your kitchen counters? I’m looking to paint ours and our granite looks very similar. Thanks!
Marissa says
What paint finish did you use for the walls and the trim? We are about to have our house painted Mindfully Gray too, but we’re unsure of the finish. The kids are so hard on the walls!
Jamie says
Hi Marissa! We did an eggshell finish on the walls and semi-gloss on the doors, trim, and cabinets! Hope this helps!
Marissa says
Thank you so much!

I WAS THINKING OF USING MINDFUL GRAY IN ALL OF OUR BEDROOMS AND THEN REPOSE GRAY OR REVER PEWTER IN OUR OPEN CONCEPT LIVING/KITCHEN AREA WITH ALABASTER WHITE CABINETS. DO YOU THINK THE MINFUL GRAY WILL BE DARK ENOUGH AND PULL A TRUER GRAY IN THE BEDROOMS? AND WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE REPOSE GRAY UP AGAINST THE ALBASTER CABINETS? I’M DEBATING ON WHETHER IT WILL BE TOO LIGHT AND WASH THE CABINETS OUT. SO THANFUL FOR YOUR BLOG. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF BUILDING AND I HAVE ALMOST ALL THE EXACT COLORS YOU HAVE PICKED OUT. STILL DEBATING ON USING SEA SALT OR SILVER STRAND FOR BOTH BATHROOMS? DECISIONS-DESCISIONS…DOESN’T HELP THAT I’M SO INDECISIVE!

Where is the rug in the nursery pictured above from?

I love your paint colors and your whole house.

I’ve been researching prices and discovered that you can essentially buy any paint base and they will use the computer to tint it to whatever color you choose, even a SW color. My only concern is quality and how many coats we may have to do if we go that route, so i am considering playing it safe and using the SW brand anyway. What specific line by SW did you use-Duration? We have been looking at that but Cashmere as well. I have chosen several of the colors you used-love them. Thanks in advance!

What color is the exterior of your home including your front door and shutters! Love it!

I love your colors. I used Napery in Kitchen which adjoins to dining/living room area, hallway and one bedroom. Alabaster in master bedroom with silver strand in the master bath and mindful gray in my office. It was beautiful! I say “was” because we sold our house and moved. Now I’m repainting our new home. First room is the half bath downstairs and I’m using Watery in semi gloss. The vibe is going to be coastal. I may paint the cabinets some shade of gray and I’m thinking of replacing the wainscoting with weathered reclaimed wood running vertically like a beach fence. Thanks for the extra inspiration!
Meedie says
I can’t believe you hid Silver Strand away in a guest bed and bath. That color is way too pretty to be hidden away.

Love your colors! You are helping me with so many decisions!! Have you noticed if your cabinets every take on a yellow hue? Where did you get your door handles?
Jamie says
I haven’t noticed it taking on a yellow hue. Also, the hardware is from a local shop called “Locks and Pulls”!

I have recently purchased kitchen cabinets for a new construction home.. it will be a open concept ranch home.. My first thought of whole house paint color would be Repose Gray.. but when my cabinet sample arrived .. I compared my paint swatches and soon realized it matched Repose Gray exactly… now I’m not sure what color for the walls… because it is a flowing open concept I don’t think it’s wise to break it up .. but I need contrast for the cabinets… any ideas of paint color for the walls? I would like a modern rustic look… thanks!

Oh my gosh. I am So glad that i happened upon your blog. When we moved to Texas we bought a new build home that had already been painted by the builders. Our trim and doors were all painted in Alabaster from Sherwin Williams and I hate It because it looks yellow not white. I have always had white baseboards so choosing a wall color has never been an issue. Since moving in I have wantef to paint the walls a gray color but I could never figure out what would go with that horrible trim color. Now maybe I have some options.

Love, love, love your color choices!!! I too am remodeling and just started research colors and picking countertops. I am going with same color pallet – – would you be willing to share you kitchen counter name?
Donna says
What color is your granite in the kitchen? It looks very similar to what we’ve picked out – We are using Mindful in main living areas, Intellectual in Master area, and agreeable in the guest rooms and bath – I had picked out pure white for cabinets and trim but I’m loving the Alabaster – Is there yellow tones in the Alabaster or grey??

Love your home! I wish you could come back to Bartlsville and assist me!

Hi,
Love your style! I was wondering if you knew the brand and color of your hardwood flooring as well as what you used in your dining room to make your ceiling look paneled? I would have never thought to do that, but love how it looks! Also, I have low light in my dining and living room area, mindful gray tends to look bluish and dark since there isn’t a lot of natural light. Is there a color you would recommend that is true soft gray that looks a lot like mindful gray but neutral undertones? I recently tried revere pewter and it’s nice but not as much gray depth as I was hoping for. Many thanks!
Jamie says
Hi Sheila!
Our hardwoods are original to our home but we sanded them down and stained them dark walnut. Also, our dining room ceiling is actually original to our home, as well!
A beautiful soft gray I would recommend (without the blue undertones) is Sherwin Williams, Agreeable Gray! It is my favorite gray!
Hope this helps!
Jamie

Do you have any suggestions for an open concept kitchen, living room, dining room but the kitchen cabinets are a creamy color…tint of yellow….I’m struggling and would consider painting the cabinets, however, they are custom and expensive, so I really hate to do that. I’m wanting something neutral but just am at a loss

I love all the colors! May I ask where you found the rug in your living room? I really like the texture and pattern. Thanks!
Kim says
I just stumbled upon your blog which is an answer to prayers- I recently moved into a new development house painted entirely one color- you guessed it- mindful grey. I’ve been so overwhelmed trying to figure out what to do with all the grey, and I’m feeling so inspired by your blog!

Love your home! Can I ask what color your exterior is painted? I love it!
Julie Smith says
Would love to know what color the exterior paint is?
Jamie says
Check out my post “exterior before & after” – it’s a custom color
Liz says
Please just do a separate post about the exterior paint color. It would be so much easier for your followers who come here from finding you on Pinterest then finally finding who you are, to finding your Instagram to now finding your blog to not find the info. I’ve been on this for hours lol.
Jamie says
It’s a custom color! I’m sorry – our house was this color when we bought it so I shared the details I have
Charity says
Where did you purchase your cabinet pulls? Are they black or bronze? Your home is beautiful!
Jamie says
They are from a local shop called “Locks and Pulls” they are black
K Sasser says
Love the colors. I will be using these in our remodel. I saw in the comments that the ceiling in the dining room was original to the home. Did you stain the ceiling? If so what is the stain color? Thank you!

Where did you get your living room rug? Love it!
