For the past few years I have been a coffee addict. I could (and would) drink several cups a day and not be phased one bit. Once I found out I was pregnant I made the switch to decaf coffee. That was a tough switch in and of itself (or so I thought). You see, the first few months after Bennett was born she had horrible reflux. I tried cutting out dairy and other foods to see if it would help ease her tummy. No such luck. Low and behold, it was the decaf coffee causing her reflux.
I joked at the time that only my own flesh and blood would be reason enough to make me give up my morning cup of joe / my favorite thing on the planet besides her (and her dad). As soon as I cut out my morning decaf coffee, the reflux stopped. I am still nursing Bennett and to this day if I have a cup of coffee, she will spit up. I’m someone who has to have a warm cup of SOMETHING in the mornings – So I made the switch to decaf tea.
There are several kinds of tea out there that taste like coffee (it’s true)! I have started drinking a few of those, as well as decaf chai tea. Every morning I boil some water in my handy dandy kettle, add a splash of milk to my cup, a scoop of collagen, and then water. Owning a kettle is a game changer, you guys! Sure you could microwave or boil water on the stove but is it this easy and does it look this good??? No. This kettle is extremely handy! Fill it up with water, flip the switch and in a couple minutes you’ve got boiling water. I highly recommend it to all you tea drinkers.
As for the scoop of collagen I put in my tea – I swear by this stuff. Collagen has a ton of benefits but I have found it helped prevent stretch marks while I was pregnant and keeps my face pimple-free. The book I lived by during pregnancy (Mama Natural) talks a lot about collagen to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy. It’s also a great source of protein as many protein powders you buy at supplement stores aren’t safe during pregnancy. My belly stretched a ton and I don’t have a stretch mark to prove it. Before you say “well stretch marks are hereditary”, the women in my family do have them. I took two scoops of collagen a day while pregnant, stayed active, and maintained a healthy diet and it paid off.
It’s not coffee but it will get you your “warm mug” fix! This is my secret morning sauce, friends! Give it a try!
Thanks for stopping by, friends!
