The amount of times I’ve drawn the layout of this mudroom is NUTS! After many variations, I landed on this design!! Large 24X24 checkered pattern tile with a mudroom bench, utility sink, vertical shiplap, and cabinetry to the ceiling! YASSSS!
The mudroom is located right off the entry and also is a passage way to the master closet. #genius Because it’s one of the first rooms you see when coming in through the front door I wanted it to really shine! Obviously, mudroom / laundry rooms are not typically known for their beauty; however, I made little changes in here to help hide clutter and make it as practical as possible -oh, and also pretty.
For starters, I knew I wanted a mudroom bench because the entryway hooks in our old house were used heavily (hats, bags, and coats). The mudroom bench will serve the same purpose except there will be cabinet doors hiding ALLLLL the things on the hooks. Secondly, we added a utility sink here because we knew we would appreciate it when cleaning Brett’s dirty work clothes, kids shoes, etc. Under the sink, instead of adding a cabinet, I made it open to the floor to perfectly fit one of these rolling laundry baskets.
Since the room is longer (and a passageway to the master closet), I don’t want laundry baskets taking up floor space. This rolling basket can be brought out to toss clean clothes in and then roll them to their designated room(s).
We also added cabinets to the ceiling above the washer and dryer, as well as a large black granite countertop on top of the units. I know I will love the extra counter top when it comes to folding!
The cabinets and shiplap will all be a beautiful slate blue (I’m thinking Bracken Slate by Benjamin Moore 🤌🏼) with gold hardware and pops of stained wood throughout (the top of the mudroom bench and shelf over the rod) to add warmth.
Lastly, we did not want a door opening into the mudroom (taking up space) and I’m not a huge fan of barn doors on a track so we plan to install this metal 6 pane sliding door. It’ll make for a beautiful statement piece in the entryway and serve a purpose. It doesn’t offer much privacy but like I alluded to, with all the hidden cabinet space I don’t suspect the laundry room getting out of hand. Plus, with the beautiful checkered floor – I gotta show it off!
This is one space I can’t wait to see come together! So much thought went into getting it just right! It’s going to be a stunner! Here’s how it looks now! 🫠
