I’m a little over a month into this motherhood gig and I’m here to tell you – You don’t need much to get through the first month. If I can do it, you can do it. I still feel like we are in survival mode but we’ve made it thus far thanks to a handful of products.
If you are a first time mom – Here’s a list of products that have helped us survive month one!
Boppy Pillow
I’ve used my Boppy pillow more than anything else this first month. It’s a lifesaver (or arm saver) when nursing.
Velcro Swaddles
I’ve tried to get in the habit of putting Bennett in a Velcro swaddle at night – Halo and Ollie are my go-to brands. Undoing the Velcro in the middle of the night is loud, but the benefit of Velcro is… It actually stays on!

Mamaroo
This is THE BEST. Our baby girl loves being in the mamaroo (thankfully) – It connects to your phone, it looks like it came straight out of the Jetsons movie, and the infant insert is washable. It truly is like having an extra set of hands around. A Dock-A-Tot serves the same purpose – Since Bennett is so small, the Dock-A-Tot isn’t as snug of a fit so she hasn’t taken to it just yet. I suspect when she gets a little bigger she will like being in the Dock-A-Tot.

Lollipop Baby Cam
We moved our baby camera into the living room (for now) since Bennett isn’t in her room much at this point. We have it pointing at the mamaroo – I’ve been able to take a shower, step into another room, make a snack, etc. and watch the baby in the mamaroo from my phone. *Praise Hands*
Solly Baby Wrap
Bennett loves being wrapped up tight against my chest in the Solly Baby Wrap. I’ve used this quite a bit when going to a neighbors or stepping outside for a bit. I love her nearness too when she’s in the wrap. Makes me feel pregnant all over again.
Tons of burp cloths and tons of blankets!
You can’t have enough burp cloths – These are my fav!
This is all I’ve found I’ve needed for month one (aside from diapers and wipes, of course)! I have also used our stroller a ton! It’s been nice to get out of the house and take walks. I was surprised to find when registering that many people have a stroller AND a jogger. This seemed like an extra expense to me. You can use a jogger as a stroller but not until they are able to hold their head up (6 months of so). I knew I’d need to get out of the house for walks before 6 months. We ended up getting a car seat and jogger we love (since we are avid runners), and saved by getting a regular, gently used stroller (which is compatible with our car seat) off Facebook Marketplace. It’s a cost saving option for those of you wanting both a jogger and a stroller.
Like I said, we are still trying to survive. There are other products I’m excited to try once we get out of the house more often.
Hope this helps any new mommas out there! Have a great day!
Jamie
