This year our favorite first born turned FIVE!! We threw together a baking theme party because Bennett LOVES baking, baking / cooking shows, and “baking” with kinetic sand. We invited two families over and had the kiddos decorate cakes and play on the bounce house – It was such a nice time!
If you’re looking to throw a baking theme party here’s how ours went down! Bennett asked for a chocolate peanut butter cake for her birthday so we made this chocolate cake and added peanut butter to this icing.
Side note: I try to avoid ingredients I can’t pronounce and food dyes so I stuck with Miss Jones organic cake mix and icing and the cake tasted delicious!
I found an adorable sprinkle covered “5” cake topper (similar linked here) for a couple bucks at Hobby Lobby which was perfect for the theme.
I bought four 4” cake pans from Hobby Lobby (similar linked here) for the cakes the kids decorated. We made four two tiered cakes for the bigger kids and 3 single tiered cakes for the littles (2 year olds). I bought this vanilla cake mix and vanilla icing. I also bought 6” cake boards from Hobby Lobby (similar linked here) to set each cake on. I bought a rectangular tray from Party City (similar linked here) for each kid, and put a paint tray (for sprinkles and chocolate chips), a napkin, a spoon, and a knife on each tray. Bennett requested piping bags so we filled piping bags with extra icing and colored the icing using this dye-free food coloring.
The paint trays were filled with chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, jelly beans / Giggles, and three different kinds of sprinkles (these are my fav!) The kids’ ages ranged from 2 years to 9 years and they all enjoyed this activity. Our two year old ate her cake but the older kids were intentional and made really pretty cakes!
After the kids finished decorating we boxed up each cake for kids to take home as a party favor. These boxes fit the two tiered cakes perfectly.
Lastly, for decor we hung up this balloon garland around our outdoor fireplace. It made for a pretty backdrop! I also had this tablecloth left over from last year’s party – It was just a cute fabric I had cut to size from Hobby Lobby. It was a little chilly and windy that day but we had an outdoor heater and the kids bounced on the bounce house so it ended up being perfect! We threw this together last minute with some leftover decorations from last years ‘Flower Power’ party and I’m so glad we did! Our daughter had the best time and memories were made!
